01 / THE PERSON BEHIND THE CODE

Marcin CzerneckiMARCIN CZERNECKI / KATOWICE, PL

Hands-on engineering.
Technical leadership.

I build distributed systems and help teams deliver them. For me, technical leadership means staying close to the code, the architecture, and the people doing the work.

I’m Marcin, based in Katowice, Poland, and currently an Associate Engineering Manager at Altium. Since 2012, I’ve built scalable software with .NET, AWS, and Azure across retail, finance, insurance, and HR tech, serving global markets and handling high-scale workloads.

My work combines architectural decisions with ownership of delivery: setting technical direction, improving reliability and performance, and getting high-quality systems into production. I mentor engineers and improve development standards, balancing technical quality with real business impact.

I also design and implement LLM-based workflows, AI agents, and automation with Semantic Kernel, LangChain, and cloud AI platforms. It’s another part of the same engineering challenge: turning complex requirements into systems that work reliably.

PROJECT NOTES

DIEBOLD NIXDORF / 2015–2017

Country Packages

Retail, localized.

I extended Diebold Nixdorf’s TP.NET retail platform to meet country-specific legal requirements and reduce development time on customer projects.

As a developer and team leader, I worked on support for payment terminals, fiscal and thermal printers, cheque scanners, and cash drawers.

SEPHORA APAC / DIEBOLD NIXDORF / 2019

Sephora

A new market. A distributed team.

I led the team customizing Diebold Nixdorf’s TP.NET solution for Sephora’s first store in Seoul, South Korea.

The development team was based in Mumbai and included colleagues I had previously trained on site. My role brought together team leadership, knowledge sharing, and customer-specific software delivery.

PLACEKNOW / SERIOUS IMPACT / 2013

PlaceKnow

Connecting people and places.

A tourism social application for finding hotels, restaurants, and attractions, buying trips, sharing photographs, and messaging other travelers.

I was responsible for backend development: creating the web service and synchronizing data with the existing social networking website.

PIOTR I PAWEŁ / SERIOUS IMPACT / 2012–2013

Piotr i Paweł

The grocery store, on mobile.

A mobile application for the Polish supermarket chain, with a loyalty card, promotions, product lists, barcode scanning, favorites, and sharing.

I developed the web services powering the mobile applications and the CMS used to manage their content.

SERIOUS IMPACT / 2014–2015

Employee Management System

A clearer picture of working time.

An Azure-hosted human resources application for managing employees and reporting on their working time.

As lead application developer, I built a system with two connected parts: a web service for an Android application, and the main CMS application in ASP.NET MVC with Entity Framework.

PERSONAL PROJECT / STARTED 2017

PassStorage 2

An offline password manager.

A Windows desktop application built in C# and WPF, exploring local password storage, encryption, and a Material Design interface.

The application stores its data locally and uses a master password to decrypt the file content. This is an archived personal project, not a recommendation for production password management.

UNIVERSITY PROJECT / 2012–2014

Learn and Play with Kinect

Learning through movement.

Built for my engineering thesis, this project explored educational games for children using Microsoft Kinect’s touch-free motion sensors.

The goal was a multimedia learning experience available on Windows, using body movement as an interface instead of a conventional controller.

SPAMPROTECTOR / PERSONAL PROJECT

A little less inbox chaos.

SpamProtector system architecture

The problem

One of my mailboxes received over a thousand spam emails a day. When my hosting provider removed filtering, I built a solution of my own.

The system

A suite of services scans mail against configurable subject, domain, and sender rules. Separate services catalog suspected spam and remove it after a retention period, helping keep control over potentially important mail.
